Each team will have four paddlers (more if paddling tandems or quads) and each paddler will complete one 4-mile leg of the race.

Starting at 10:00 AM from Leone Beach, each participant will go south approx. two miles, around a marker, then return to Leone where they switch paddlers for the second leg and so on.

Each leg must be paddled by a different crew. Crew #1 will begin at Leone Beach and paddle south approximately 2 miles to a control buoy. Crew #1 will round the buoy and return to Leone Beach. There they will be required to land their craft and pass off a token to Crew #2. Crew #2 will then enter the water and repeat the process above. So on for Crew #3 & Crew #4 until all four crews have completed the course.

The course is a loop covering approx. 8 miles and running near shore from Leone Beach to Montrose Beach and returning to Leone Beach.

All Short Course competitors will start at 11:00 AM at Leone Beach.

The Montrose Beach check-in requires competitors to land their craft and check in with a designated race official before returning to the water to complete the return trip to Leone Beach.

This 26-mile open water race will challenge the most experienced paddler.

Starting at 9:00 AM in Calumet Harbor on the far south side of Chicago, competitors will race northward along the entire shoreline to Leone Beach.

Mandatory beach safety stops will occur at the following beaches -

  • 63rd St. beach
  • 12th St. beach
  • North Ave. beach
  • Montrose Ave beaches

Participant will have breath-taking views of the city skyline and will pass close to the museum campus and Navy Pier as they head north to the finish line.
